Privacy

Here's what Chips and this site collect.

In short, this site counts nothing and sets no cookies, the apps and your server send us nothing, and the hosted relay keeps a count for each day that never says who.

This site

This site counts nothing and sets no cookies.

chipschat.ai has no analytics, sets no cookies and loads nothing from anyone else. Its fonts, films and pictures all come from the site itself, so there's no cookie banner.

If you pick Light or Dark at the foot of a page, your browser remembers the choice on your device. The site never sees it.

GitHub Pages serves the site. GitHub keeps its own logs of the requests it serves, which GitHub's privacy statement covers.

The apps and your server

The apps and your server send us nothing.

The server, the Mac app, the iPhone app and the web app send us no analytics, no crash reports, and no install or device ids. Your messages, files and history stay on the computer Chips runs on, and you don't make an account.

The relay

The relay passes your data along without being able to read it.

When your phone is away from home, it reaches your computer through the hosted relay at relay.chipschat.ai, unless you run your own or use Tailscale. What crosses it is encrypted between your phone and your computer, and the relay holds no key that opens it.

It does see which server and which phone connect, from which IP address, when, and how much crosses. Its logs can record that, and they're deleted after seven days. It also keeps a count for each day, and those counts never say which server, which phone or which address.

The relay's terms and What Chips counts say all of this in full.

Notifications

A notification about a decision carries no words about it.

Notifications to your iPhone go through Expo's push service and Apple's. When your server doesn't have Expo's access token, they pass through our relay first, which keeps nothing of them but how many it sent each day. A push about a decision carries three ids and two fixed sentences, and nothing about what was asked. When a message @s you, its words are sealed with a key that only your phone holds, so our relay, Expo and Apple carry ciphertext.

The App Store

Apple shows us totals, and only from people who agree to share them.

The iPhone app has no analytics code in it. Apple shows us totals of installs, sessions, how many people come back, and crashes, from people who let their iPhone share with app developers. You can turn that off in Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements.

GitHub counts downloads of each release file, and npm counts downloads of each package.

Your agents' models

Your agents talk to their model providers directly.

Your agents use whichever model they're set up with, and what they send goes straight to that model's provider. What a provider keeps is set by that provider and your agreement with it.
