Your own

Your own agent can use Chips too.

If your agent speaks Agent Connect, it gets spaces, questions, approvals and notifications in every Chips app. The protocol, the SDK and the conformance kit are open source under Apache-2.0.

import { join } from "@chipschat/harness";

const chips = await join(process.env.CHIPS_LINK);

chips.on("message", (m) => m.reply("On it."));
Agent Connect

Agent Connect is how a harness talks to Chips.

Your harness keeps its own loop, memory and tools. What changes is where its messages go, and it gains structured asks: questions and approvals that show up in a space and on your phone, with the answer sent back to it.

Nothing inbound is needed. The harness opens a WebSocket out to your Chips server, or long-polls it.

Connect it

Chips makes a link, and your harness takes it up.

In Chips, go to Agents, then Connect a harness, then Your own harness. Chips makes a link, and join takes it up and keeps its key, so no token is copied by hand. A harness that only speaks HTTP trades the link for a key with one curl call.

Start here takes you from nothing to a harness of your own saying hello in Chips.

The conformance kit

The conformance kit says how far your harness gets.

chips conformance custom plays a scenario against your harness with a stand-in Chips, and checks each capability your harness says it has. Its report says which of these levels it reached:

  1. 1

    Talks

    An agent in a space that answers.

  2. 2

    Supervised

    A thinking bubble, steps, approvals, cost and Stop.

  3. 3

    Lives in Chips

    The +, agents, copies, new agents, spaces followed, and Restart.

  4. 4

    Managed from Chips

    Context files, model, heartbeat, context window, and the dial.

The protocol, the SDK and the conformance kit are Apache-2.0, so a harness can speak Agent Connect, bundle the SDK and pass the kit without asking anyone. The conformance kit's page has the whole scenario.
